Paintings

Closed off from the world
he sits and paints.
Reds and blacks
splash at odd ends
of trees and walls
in the art that
the dark artists breathes.
His own heartbeats slow
as if giving up on life
just like him.
His paintings dry in the afternoon sun
while he waits for his heart to die.
A knock at his door
awakes him from his stupor
and there you stand.
Your smile is inviting
as you offer compainionship
and life.
He refuses at first,
too surprised to know any better.
you persist, but his will holds strong.
He begins to paint
what he sees in his dreams.
You're there
shining like a light house
on a dark night.
You help him see
what he has done wrong.
Soon he tries
to find you.
To seek out your face
You can't be found
till it's too late.
He finds you,
pale and bleeding
in the middle of
your pure white room.
Hot tears spill
down his face
as he clutches you
to his chest.
The hours move by
too slowly for him.
He goes home and pains something
he wouldn't have been able to
without your help.
It's himself and you
happy and smiling.
the one thing you wanted.
At night he dreams
you're with him again
and pushing him through life.
