Avatar: The Beggining

In the Avatar world, there are benders on earth, fire, and water. There's only one airbender left on earth, because the Fire Lord destroyed their civilization so many years ago. Now, the benders are joining forces against the war to bring peace back to the countries. GO!!

Fai was sitting on a fairly high building in the great Earth city. His home was near the east wall, his favorite resturant only a few blocks away, his parents long dead from when he was ten. His black bangs swished in the cold breeze, making him shiver. It was almost winter here. That meant less time outside. He looked up at the sky. No more reaching for the tall grass. Longing for the breeze. He took a great breath to remind himself he'd still be able to breathe after the snow melted. They usually got a lot here. Reaching up, he touched just over his left eye hidden mostly by silky bangs with pale fingertips. He was completely blind in this eye since he was born, though it never seeed to bother him much. In martial arts class he attacked with kicks and spins to avoid missing or being discovered. His expression was blank and emotionless. No one knew; no one cared, how it felt to live a world shrouded halfway in darkness.

Chi smoothed the wrinkles from her black skinny jeans as the wind began to pick up. She wasn't wearing her usual warrior outfit, for her father hadn't let her. 'This is a city,' he'd said. 'Those skimpy clothes just aren't decent.' Chi played with her long plum pigtails, their metal star bands replaced with black material ones. She wore a tight black shirt with a neon green heart on the front, a pattern of butterflies on her belt, and her black flats. A black mini-shoulder bag on a long strap over one shoulder held all her weapons and small paperback books. She jangled the green and black bracelets on her arm as she rested her chin in her palm and her elbow on her knee. The steps of a mosque wasn't the funnest place to wait for her father to pick her up.

Ren glided down from the rooftop of the mosque and landed in an alleyway, sliding his hands in his pockets just as his clothes settled down around him from the fall. He walked out into the sunlight, feet trodding as he approached a very pretty girl on the front steps of the church, "Hey," he said. "do you know where any good clothing stores are around here? I need a new color scheme," he smiled jokingly. "black is baking me."

Toph stood in the middle of town square, listening and feeling to see. Her bare feet took in all the movements of everything around her. She could hear kids laughing around her as she practiced her bending. She could feel a rock move from the ground and she moved quickly, punching it into the side of a wall that wouldn't crumble. Her own breathing was even as she slid her feet against the ground, sending a cloud of pebbles flying towards open air. No one would be able to tell that she was blind. No one every realized that she couldn't see. Someone's mom called their kid to them, the child went, sulking the whole way.

Chi smiled gently, "Maybe there's one around, but I'm not familiar with this place yet. I'm new," she added as they heard a crash. Both of them look around and Chi got up, "Whats was that?"

Fai frowned, his vision only getting half of the street, "I dunno," he said to her. "lets go find out." He started down the dirt street, stomping to send out vibrations for a threat nearby; but he only got back normal business of the city. Confused, he turned a corner and paused as Chi caught up. "An earthbender," he concluded as they watched Toph work.

Toph made little peices of earth fly up with her foot and fired them into the air. The exploded in a cloud of dust. the kids watching her laughed. She walked over to a foutain and sat down, wiping the back of her hand across her forehead. She could tell two people were watching her, but she couldn't tell which direction they were in. Quickly, she sent a tremor through the dirt so she could see what was around her. two people's feet were angled towards her, so she geussed they were the ones watching her.

Fai took the girl's hand and led her over to the one training, "Hey," he complimented. "you're really good." His right eye flashed for a minute; a pale gold against the other coal black one, as he realized she was blind.

Toph's head snapped up so it looked like she was looking at the voice. "Thanks." she said. Toph sent another tremor through the ground, just so she could tell where the road she had to take later was. "I have to keep myself amused some how." she added after a minute. Like usual, she wanted to see who she was talking to, but all she could tell was height and breathing. one of the two people had on bracelets that jingled when their arm moved.

Fai laughed, "Yeah, I know that. I'm a bender myself but I don't get to use it often." He let go of Chi's hand and started walking up to the fountain, closing his eyes. Stairs popped from the ground and twined around up to the peak of the fountain and he took them one by one, smoothly, gliding up as if they didn't have gaping spaces between them. He stepped off onto the top of the fountain where the water spouted out around his feet without touching him as the stairs fell back into place, settling down into their old spots. A smile danced across his lips as he saw the children off to his left side gawking and pointing at him. "I can control it pretty well," he said down to Toph. "but... I can't make statues or anything with major detail."

Toph almost groaned. He was an earthbender, so he could feel the tremors she sent out. ''Cool." she said, hiding her dismay. moving her feet, Toph made a simple heart come out of the ground.

Fai leapt down to her side and smiled a little. He knew she couldn't see, but her tremors were a smart idea. He fingered the heart, "Cool."

Fai ducked the hand as it breezed passed his face and laughed, shaking it gingerly, "Nice to meet ya, Toph. I'm Fairon. Call me Fai."

Toph pulled her hand back and glared at the ground. ''ditto'' she said, her eyes not leaving what she felt was soft ground.

Fai winced as his right eye throbbed and looked away from Toph instinctively, covering it with his hand, "Ow..." He mumbled, his vision jumping.

toph's head jerked around, "What's wrong?" she said, her hearing flaring out. Her tremors went through quickly, making sure nothing was coming.

Fai's shoulders trembled, "I... Nothing, I'm fine," he said through clenched teeth, bearing the agony searing the right side of his face. "my eye just likes to give me greif every now and - OW!" He shouted as a flash of what felt like lightning tore through his body, and his legs gave out from under him, sending him into the dirt on his stomach. He lay with his cheek on the ground, his eye's pain dulling, and closed both eyes as his world went black, arms curled up to is sides. Oh, no...
