Regret
Is a lonely companion.
It's hands are cold.
It's words, empty.
It whispers what might have been;
It taunts me.
With the foolishness of my lies.
So much regret,
For the lies that hurt
But there is one lie
I never will regret -
The lie that allowed me
To love them.

Oh, to live my life
One step ahead of myself
To know the actions
That will bring joy, or pain.
But now regret
Holds me in it's biting jaws.
I feel teeth sinking in,
Wishing I could retrace my steps
To start my journey afresh,
But the teeth sink deeper
And my foolish wishes
Cannot help my escape
Regret's bitter hold.
