Pack

There are two feuding packs, the Nash and the Pasic. Nash owns the east half of the uninhabbited New Zealand, and the Pasic own the west. There are about 10 to each pack, give or tae a few, and most will be moderated by us. ^^ I shall assign you your ranks along with the one you choose~

Red fur flaring back, Scarlet ran. The elk didn't have time to move before she had her teeth gripped at it's throat. She picked it up and started back to her pack, feeling very pleased with herself.

Toboe was scouting the area for any signs of the other pack, for it was herding season and food was plentiful this time of year, but none showed. He trotted alongside Scarlet and flashed a grin, "Good catch, Scar." With a flick of his tail, he bounded off again. Time to report to the beta; he'd been puting this off for an hour.

Kiba was looking over the females of the pack that weren't huntresses, and with a thud, sat down on his hunches to survey, with pride, his orginization. There were older females already grandmothers and great grandmothers chatting off to the left, with the experienced mothers, their pups already grown and most who'd already had more then one litter. They weren't legible for mating anymore, but they did make good nannies for busy younger mothers. To the right were the teenage girls, lined up and pruning for the mate ceremony tonight, where they would be choosen by a strong alpha son to bear his litter. But of course these girls were no match for the alpha's daughter, Cheza, who got her pick of the males that weren't her brothers. The only girl born into leadership, she was a sight to behold, and her the power to back it up. She was a great leader and had a good heart for her pack. Kiba tilted his head and pricked his ears, hearing approaching footsteps. He rolled his eyes. It was probably Toboe, reporting after two long hours, coming to disrupt his work. Standing up swiftly, he glided into the forest to meet the young hunter.

Scarlet brought her catch to the Pack, still quite pleased with herself. The Elk was about the size of two of the wolves here. It was the biggest she had caught in awhile, esspecially on her own. She sat down non the edge while some of the elders came and took some of the meat.

Toboe bounded out of the trees, grinning at the beta male, "Kiba, sir, report." The older wolf scowled, "Permission to speak granted." Toboe chuckled, "Nothing, sir. No enemy pack members in sight." Kiba nodded, "Good." Scarlet caught his eye, "I'll go check on the food. Go back and check with the alpha family, see if they're ready to eat."

Kiba padded over to Scarlet and the food, but instead of eating, he sat at her side, "Wonderful catch, my dear," he said, examining the corpse with pride. "you have done well, as expected."

Scarlet beamed with pride, her pelt shining in the sunlight. "Thank you." she said, her tail wagging. "What did I miss while I was hunting?" she asked, shaking out the dust from pounceing on the elk. She still couldn't beleive there was one that big in the trees still.

Toboe padded up to the alpa's part part of the medow, and sat off to the side, howling a servent's summon.

Kiba sighed, "We're losing one of the elders." He looked away, "It's Toboe's grandmother."

The alpha family perked their ears where they lay, in the shade of the trees on the far edge of their territory against the side of the high rock mountain. The father was big and black, Swift, the biggest of their pack, and he rose from his spot in the warm grass to greet their summoner. "Speak," he boomed. Behind him, his wife Chare, the sleek, snow white female, looked up from licking her paw. Her mother, the gandmom of her pup, was a sleek grey female, her male killed many years ago, and slept soundly in the sun breaking the branches of the tall oak trees. But the most interested was the daughter of Swift and Chare, Cheza. She got up from her spot at her mother's side and stepped over to her father and the newcomer, sleek white coat tinted with just a bit of violet and emerald eyes coy and gentle, bushy tail swishing behind her slowly. The young teen was Toboe's age, with their birthdays both being on the same day. She smiled, "What is it, Hunter?"

Toboe smiled debonarishly, bowing low, "Dinner is here, and we were wondering if you and your family'd like to come and eat, miss." His saphire eyes flashed as Cheza's father shot him a glare, and the boy tore his eyes from her's to look up at him.

Scarlet gasped, whimpering as she did. "Poor Toboe. How's he taking it?" she said, lowering her head. It wasn't the time to be pleased.

Kiba shook his head sadly, "He doesn't know yet. The boy's been out on recon for days, and I don't hve the heart to crush his spirit."

Cheza nodded gracefully, "We would love to. Mother, father." She said to her parents, stepping up to Toboe's side and smiling at them. Of course both of them got up and folloed, but they left her grandmother behind, still lying in the warm grass.

Scarlet put her head down, her ears droping slightly. "well someone should tell him. It'll be harder if he has to find out on his own." she said, scratching her ear. Her tail twitched slightly as she saw him and the Alpha family comeing to get something to eat from her kill. "I should go get some more for the pups, huh?" she asked.

Toboe smiled back, and started off, leading them into the other group. He left the rest of the alpha pack to sit at Kiba and Scarlet's side, "Hey, guys," he said, glancing at them before staring after Cheza.
Kiba tensed and lockd his jaw, looking down at the by. This was not going to be pretty. Just as he was abuot to open his mouth, he caught the teen's gaze after thealpha daughter, and growled low, "Toboe, lad, don't even think about it. She wouldn't take a second glance at you."
Toboe's ears drooped, "Jee, sir, I wouldn't think of goin after such a shapely dame!" He grinned up at the beta cheekily, tail wagging friously behind him.

Scarlet stood up elegantly and started walking off. The pups would need food soon. they were aways the most hungry oif the pack. "I'm going to go see what I can find near the border. There's got to be something small enough for the pups there." she said, wagging her tail slightly before running.

Kiba looked after Scarlet, shifting his paws nervously on the ground, "I don't like her going off alone," he shook his head. "But I know she doesn't need to be babied."
Toboe eyed him, "And you're proding me for falling for a damsel. Geez, sir, you haven't ever had a litter, have you?"
Kiba snarled at him, "Don't speak to me in that tone, hunter, I know my place. As should you."
Toboe sighed, "I know." He lowered his gaze, but turned his head so he could see Cheza again.
Kiba cooled himself, "All right, I've put this off too long. Toboe?" He looked down at the younger wolf as he perked his ears and jerked around to face the beta.
"Yessir?" Toboe said, curiously.
Kiba's eyes were tight, "Boy, your grandmother is ill."
Toboe's heart fell, "What? Grandma?"
Kiba nodded sadly, "She's on her deathbed, and your mother wants you after dinner tonight. I'm sorry."
Toboe's gaze was unbeleiving, "I'm skipping dinner," he said, risig to his shaky paws. "She needs me now!" He took off, leaving the beta in his wake, legs pounding the ground.

Scarlet's paws found a normal rythmn that they could easily run with as she approached the pack's lines. There were soundsall around, but she couldn't decide what would be best for the little ones. They wouldn't want something that would be too easy to chew, they were teething. She decided to get a doe. They were just the right texture for the pups. She picked up the soft doe and started off back to the pack, her stomache clenching with hunger. I'll eat when everyone else has.

Kiba shook his head and got up as well, trotting into the forest to the border. It was true. He'd never had a litter; but he also wasn't allowed to ask for a mate in the ceremony as a beta. A female had to ask him, which no one ever did, beause of his temper. The beta male perched on a boulder overlooking the small creek the pack rested beside, staring down into his own reflection.
Toboe ran all the way to his grandmother lying under a tall oak at the edge of the pack, pushing through his cousins and brothers to get to her. His mother sat at the old woman's side, licking at her face and paws in sorrow. Toboe nuzzled her when he approached and she stepped aside so he could speak with his grandmother. Her face was streaked with grey in the white she used to be, body skinny and frail, as she lye there in the grass. Toboe leaned down to her, whimpering, "Grandma?"

As Scarlet put the kill down for the pups, the wind blew Kiba's smell towards her. He had left the camp. Toboe was over with his grandmother so she deccided to take a swift nap ebfore the ceremony, not that anyone would ask her. She had too much of a male's attitude in her. That and she had a bit of a temper.

Kiba turned from the creek and ran back to camp, catching a rabbit on his way back. He took the white ball of fur as he trotted back into the medow, glancing arond to see Scarlet settling down for a nap. Plodding over to her, he set the rabbit between them and lay down himself, paws stretched out in front of him, "Eat," he said. "you've caught for everyone else, now it's your turn."

Scarlet lifted her head a bit and took a bite of the rabbit. "Thank you Kiba." she said swallowing the chunk of meat. She ate half of it , then nudged the other half towards the other wolf. "You didn't take any of the kill earlier."
