Kiba shrugged and took a bite himself, "That's because we live for the pack. Our priorities come last." He left the skelton aside and lay his head down in the grass, looking up at Scarlet, "It's a life."

Scarlet settled down. "You got your eye on any of the pre moddonas over there" she asked, flicking her tail over at the group of girls that were cleaning their coats for the ceremony.

Kiba snorted, "Those barbie dolls with tails? Forget it. They wouldn't last five minutes as mothers for any male," he closed his eyes. "Not like I'm allowed to choose anyway. Rules are rules."

"I know. You have to be asked." Scarlet barked a short laugh. "They are a bit too stuck up though. They think the only thing there is too life is finding a wolf that's got a good enough tail." she snorted. "Idiots."

Kiba chuckled, "You sound so much like someone I know, it's scary." He smiled, cracking one eye to gaze at her. "What about you? Any young bucks catching your eye?"

Scarlet closed her eyes. "Yes acctually, but you'll have to wait till the ceromony to find out who." she said, her tail wagging.

Kiba sighed, sending grass blades bending away, and snuggled his snout into his big paws, "Now that's just torcher," he joked groggily, drifting off.

Scarlet let herself go to sleep, her tail still wagging.

A few hours later, when it was dark, Kiba and Scarlet joined the circle of 35 pack members who had the phisical capability of paritcipitating, older, mothers and younger family members crowded around the tree line watching. Kiba took his spot by the youngest alpha male son, Streak, about two years old, and stared after Scarlet as she took her spot. He also spotted Toboe down the male side a bit down with the other hunters an felt a pang of guilt at the blank expression on his ruined, usually bright face.

Scarlet sat down with the females and looked at Toboe. She knew his pain. "It'll be okay little one." she murmured, knowing he wouldn't hear. "It'll be okay."

The alpha leader stood up then, proud and tall, his daughter at his side. "As we begin, I'd like to thank all you young ones for coming tonight. It brings me great happiness to see so many faces." He stepped aside so Cheza could speak.

Cheza smiled over all the males and females, tail swishing, "It gives me great pleasure to start off this wonderful event, by choosing my own mate." She locked eyes wth each boy in turn, stopping on a black teenager and gliding gracefully from the boulder. "Father has made it clear I may have any one of the males I choose, but thoug my descision was final, it was also difficult." The grass bowed at her delicate paws as she strode over to him, licking his snout with a small pink tounge. Toboe looked quite suprised she had picked him.

Scarlet let out a breath of relief. If anyone could help him, cheza could. Her tail twitched with amusment.

Toboe blinked in shock as the alpha daughter continued kissing his nose, but soon stood up and copied her as was tradition. He followed her back to where her father sat, tensed with anger but not letting much show, and sat close to Cheza. She nodded to the start of the alpha row of her male brothers. It went in this order:
Alpha daughters
Alpha sons
Hunter males
Beta females
Huntresses
Beta males ((when all of them were mostly gone, so usually they ddn't get to pick.))

Scarlet stood up when it was her turn. She walked straight over to Kiba and licked his muzzle. Her hazel eyes were gentle as she sat down next to him.

Kiba stared at her in suprise, but returned the kiss and waited until all the pairs were through to turn to her, "Scarlet? Are you sure?" He asked, estatic to the brim and struck with amazement.

Scarlet dipped her muzzle. "If I wasn't, I would have stayed where I was. slow ball of fur." she said, playfully growling at Kiba. She gentlly pulled at his ear, reminding herself of how she was when she was puppy and learning how to hunt.

Kiba laughed and nipped back at her, growling playfully, "That's me," he joked, swatting gently at her with his tail. "so why'd you pick me?"

"Do you have to ask Kiba?" Scarlet said pressing her muzzle against his shoulder. "You accept me for who I am. Every stubborn, playful part of me." she said, pulling her muzzle back. "I don't have to pretend to be any other wolf then the one I am with you." Scarlet licked his muzzle again, her tail wagging still.

Kiba took this in stride and licked her muzzle back, "I hope I can make you happy," he said softly, happier inside then on the surface. He nibbled at her ear playfully and grinned his wolfish grin.

Sscarlet yipped happily, a shiver going through her fur. "You already have." she replied, scratching her ear.
