The City of Silicon: Vampires and Werewolves

Ash's expression softened, "It must be hard dealing like that," he said. "but you know you could shed one of them if you really wanted."

"I've tried. Remember when we were little and I went reallt weird for a year? I was always growling and couldn't be around humans? I was trying to get rid of the vamp, but back then it was hard to deal with. Now the wolf is harder." Lucia said, shaking her head.

Ash shrugged, "What do you want to do with them?"

"Other then you?" Lucia asked, looking like she was really thinking.

Ash smiled, "No, I mean which half would suit you better. Which would you choose?"

"Umm....Vampire...." Lucia said, knowing her friend would think she was nuts for it.

Ash looked bewildered, "What? Why?"

"It's easier. There's not so many......liabilities." Lucia said, closing her eyes and turning her face away from Ash.

Ash smiled and lay beside her, encircling her with his arms and holding her close, "You know that means the world to me," he whispered. "but you don't have to give up your wolf side just to be with me."

"I know." Lucia murmured, burying her head in Ash's chest, ignoring the faint throb of her side.

Ash kissed the top of her head, "You sure? Would you really want to give up your wolf side?"

"It's easier if I do. I wouldn't have to be so...hesitant." Lucia said, closing her eyes and breathing deeply.

Ash closed his eyes, "How?" He breathed.

"My wolf half wont want to hurt you everytime I'm near you." Lucia said.

Ash smiled, "I mean how do we get rid of your other half?"

Lucia hesitated, remebering Ash's response when she mentioned a vampire's bite yesterday. "I....would have to be.....changed, like anyother person." she said, waiting for Ash to immediatly say no.

Ash stiffened immedietly. His head burst with images of his fangs sinking into her arm, her doubling over, screaming in agony. Horrifying pictures of her corpse lying still in a pool of blood and writhering. Ashes blown away in the breeze, never to be seen again. He tightened his arms around her, making sure not to touch her side, "I'll do it for you," he said softly, "but we have to wait. Tomorrow is the day we're released into the new world." His heart ached, "I don't want us to miss the crowd. They're our best chance of surviving the conditions outside. We'll pack; follow them, and when we find our feet, we can talk about it more. Go to sleep," he ended firmly.

Lucia heard an edge of fear in Ash's voice but nodded. She knew he would have been scared. Closing her eyes, she drifted to sleep, not sure why she was so tired.

Ash never slept that night. But he did get up early and pack his bag full of blood and clothes. He also threw in a toothbrush and 2 tubes of toothpaste and lay back beside Lucia on the bed. Today was the big day.

Lucia woke up to the pain in her side. Hissing in pain, she sat up and wrapped an arm around her stomache. "Merde." she growled under her breath, speaking fluent French.

Ash tutted her, sitting up as well and kissing her cheek, "Language," he murmered. "want me to pack for you?"

"No. The Alpha wouldn't hesitate to kill you. I'll go and grab some jeans and a not bloodied shirt." Lucia said, trying to stand up properly. Almost every move she made hurt like hell.

Ash rolled his eyes and made her sit back down, "I'll put on a turtle neck and drive you," he reasoned, slipping into a dark green one and a long pair of black jeans. It was a beautiful day, but it wasn't unusual to see goths roaming the streets. He tugged a beanie with a visor connected over his hears and smiled at her, swooping her into his arms, "Lets go."

Lucia grumbled something about being able to go herself in the car. When they got there, she got out and walked in her house. Just like she left it, a suitcase was on the couch, packed a bit with clothes and toiletries. She went over and struggled to get her shirt off and get a half shirt on. Before leaving, she replaced her bandages and slug the bag on her shoulder.

Ash waited until she came back outside to get out and open her door for her, face sparkling, but not as brightly as his eyes.
